Nevis New Years Shutdown Schedule
|
This is a copy of a mail message sent by
David Leon on the shutdown of computer systems at Nevis over the 1999-2000 New
Year's weekend.
|
In order to minimize any possible problems, I have been asked by the senior
staff to shut down the computing environment here at the lab during the
period of December 31, 1999 - January 1, 2000. As such I am posting the
schedule that I will follow:
-
December 30 and 31
- School is closed. I will be here performing final
backups of all computer systems. I will be turning off all X-window
terminals as I travel around the lab. All administrative computer systems
will be shutdown. If you are working on the systems, expect a performance
hit as I will be performing backups over the network.
-
December 31 - 11:00am
- The Vax Cluster and the Linux systems will be shut down.
-
December 31 - 12:00 noon
-
The SGI will be shut down
-
January 1, 2000 - before 12:00 noon
- The SGI, Vax cluster, and Linux systems will be rebooted.
I expect to be here at the lab for about 1 hour on January 1 unless I
discover problems.
I will also be on call for the entire weekend. However, echoing
Bill Seligman's Email:
"The primary purpose of being on-call is to keep e-mail up and running
over that weekend. If a problem develops that is not related to your
academic communications via Nevis systems, please wait Bill and I
return on Jan 3."
