I'm a neutrino physicist and a professor in the Physics Department
at Columbia University.
I am a part of The Columbia Neutrino Group. This page has links to our ongoing experiments:
MiniBooNE, SciBooNE and Double Chooz
I am working on two ideas for future experiments:
microBooNE
and
NuSOnG

In the photo at left, I am holding a phototube --
a detector which produces electric charge when hit by photons. The MiniBooNE detector
is lined with these phototubes. The Columbia neutrino group was responsible for
purchasing new tubes and testing all of the tubes for MiniBooNE.
The next photo shows the MiniBooNE Magnetic Focusing
"horn", which directs charged particles in our beamline towards
our detector. These particles decay to produce neutrinos. The Columbia neutrino group worked on the horn design and testing.
Learn about neutrinos here! Various booklets, podcasts, etc...
You can read about my work on MiniBooNE in "Fun with Physics" by K. C. Cole, in The New Yorker June 2, 2003, p 48
A list of some of my outreach activities is here.
I am science advisor for the Earth & Sky radio program... Check them out, it's a great program!
