RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 17 May, 2005 Present o Fermilab L.Bagby, M.Cwiok, G.Ginther, S.Lammers, M.Mulhearn, Md.Maimuddin, V.O'Dell, G.Pawloski, P.Renkel, A.Stone, o FSU T.Adams o MSU M.Abolins, J.Benitez, D.Edmunds, P.Laurens o Nevis H.Evans, C.Johnson Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o New EM algorithm - based on simulation studies by Greg, the best version of the EM algorithm appears to be "Algo 4" on http://www.nevis.columbia.edu/~evans/l1cal/algos/em_algo/working/em_comp.html - Greg will present this work in an upcoming meeting - the new algo is now being coded in firmware o Testing trigger term creation firmware in GAB continues o Power supply - have decided that monitoring will be greatly simplified if we buy a Wiener supply (~$5K) . then all Run IIb L1Cal supplies will be similar . putting together an order for this - in the meantime can use the Vicor supply that arrived last month MSU: ADF v2 (D.Edmunds) ----------- o Dan will bring 40 ADFs + 2 crates to Fermilab tomorrow - will also bring SCLD with latest firmware (correct timing of BLS signals) . this will allow us to look at real signals during a store - on next trip, will bring Fermilab-loaner Wiener crate back to the lab o ADF Crate-level tests - documentation available on the web o Communications Crate (6U/9U split crate) - VME/SCL card needs VIPA-type connectors - solution: . use full VIPA crate for Communications Crate . use extenders for 6U cards - Dan will write up a description of what needs to be done there o Online Software - look into controlling the Test Stand system from a TCC-type computer (this is what we will need eventually) - software upgrade for capturing real data - discuss with Mike how to integrate existing w/ TAB/GAB software BLS-to-ADF Transition System (A.Stone) ---------------------------- o ADF Transition Card - req's submitted for all parts - layouts & schematics are under review o Patch Panel o Pleated Foil cables have arrived - need to test these before ordering full complement o Test System for the whole Transition System - starting to think about how best to do this Pulser (B.Kehoe) ------ o Patterns for Pulser Runs - Peter now has set of files that he needs o Have taken some runs - now looking at the output Unpacker (T.Adams) -------- o 1st version written and committed - tested on Run IIa data . no longer crashes on this (of course, complains about format) - more testing will be implemeted as we get more experience - some documentation available in CVS directory o Wendy and Todd are working on getting the MC to write out data that can be unpacked Test System (M.Mulhearn, M.Naimuddin) ----------- o ADF-to-TAB Synchronization - TAB firmware now works on various test patterns . BC, parity and all other control checks work - Pseudo-Random Data from ADF . parity check failing here - new ADF firmware will allow real data to be sent to the TAB o L3 Data Transfer - had been stuck for a few days with SBC configuration problems - this has now been sorted out - will try writing data to tape tomorrow o L2 G-Link Errors - need to check to see whether these also happen at L3 . small firmware mod to VRB will allow passing of error information . can also use a different VRB application (CDF-SMT) that has error monitoring
