KlystronKlystrons are microwave tubes that use the same technology as airport radar and home microwave ovens. However, to provide the necessary level of power to the NLC, these klystrons must provide a million times the power of an ordinary light bulb or about 75 thousand times the power of a powerful kitchen microwave oven.

There is more information about how klystrons work in our Virtual Visitor Center.
