MEMORANDUM OF THE
INTEGRATION STAND MEETING
Attendees: J. Anderson, D. Edmunds, H. Evans, P. Padley, D. Wood, R.P. Smith
Agenda: 1. Review
Note from Denis Calvet
2. AOB
1. On April 3 Hal forwarded to me a note sent by Denis Calvet that itemized a number of infrastructure issues pertinent to the L1 Cal Integration Stand which FNAL has agreed to provide outside MCH1. Today’s meeting was called to focus on Denis’ note and bring its contents to the attention of all involved in the effort Although I said I wouldn’t circulate minutes, I decided a memorandum (this one) was appropriate. Denis’ note itemized:
· PC or VME SBC Control of the ADF card
· Software tools (Modelsim, Leonardo, Xilinx, etc)
· Test Equipment (GHz scope, Logic analyzer)
· Safety Review
· Cable Length
· Schedule (board ships end of July, Denis here 2nd half of Aug)
· Remote Operation (Kerberos?)
2.
John indicated that he was prepared to begin assembling
the required rack(s) as soon as he receives detail on how many/what size crates
will go in the rack(s), how tall a rack is desired, and how much power is
required in the rack. Hal indicated that probably only one rack is needed at
the outset. Regarding rack height, Rich
noted that it seemed best to choose the actual rack that will go into MCH1 for
RunIIb. Hal and
3. John indicated that a logic analyzer could be found, but it might be best if the group provided its own scope, since all his spares are woefully obsolete.
4.
John indicated that Tim Martin would prepare the
electrical service, and MCH would be powered down < 1 shift to make the
connections. He will provide a few
quad-outlet service boxes for general use at the test area. (He noted it might
be possible to do the electrical hook-up during a machine study period sometime
before the shutdown if the detector wasn’t operating). He asked for a WBS number for the work.
5. John indicated that the information he receives from Hal will enable him to start the safety review. Individual fuses on boards would be nice, but are not mandatory to pass safety if the power supply and rack are properly protected.
6. All agreed that it would the “safest” it Saclay brought its own PC already set up with all the software and hardware needed. Starting from scratch at FNAL could easily take a week of futzing around to get things running. PPD has a network license for the Xilink stuff.
7.
As for the schedule, the present FNAL schedule is the
official one.
8. Dan agreed to provide the cable lengths; John will install a plastic cableway from the S side to the E side of MCH1. A few (4) Ethernet outlets are required at the test area.
9.
Rich presented Stu’s thoughts on TCP/IP access to the
online system from outside. Even though
this system will be on the offline network, it still presents formidable
obstacles to outside access.
10. Action Items: Hal will send the crate/rack dimension and power numbers to John. Dan will ask Stu for Ethernet service in the area.
