RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 8 January, 2004 Present o Fermilab: D.Edmunds, H.Evans, V.O'Dell, S.Rapisarda o MSU: P.Laurens o Nevis: J.Mitrevski, J.Parsons o Northeastern: E.Barberis, D.Wood o Saclay: J.Bystricky, D.Calvet, E.Perez Test Waveform Generator Status (S.Rapisarda) ------------------------------ o Software - setting up SCL teststand at FCC (previously used to test SCL Fanout & Hub controller) o Firmware - modify Xilinx firmware to use SCL o Hardware - implement filtering in amplification stae - improvements in system clock o Mod's should be ready by next meeting ADF Status (D.Calvet) ---------- o Shipped ADF to Dan o Received 3 splitter cards (begin Jan.) - tested and all working - will ship to Dan in next few days o Testing Single-Channel ADF mezz. card - playing with analog section o Last tests on ADF (before shipping) - test Channel Link transmitter w/ special receiver card - changed common-mode voltage on ADC driver to correct value . this is probably the source of the noise on the ADC . was probably an oscillation . investigating further with single-channel ADF MSU: ADF & Online (Dan Edmunds & Philippe Laurens) ----------------- o Understanding the ADF parts list so that they will be ready to order - Denis mentioned that there are some problems with the analog parts . voltage range of ADC is incompatible with voltage of ADC driver > several solutions: some require changes to ADC/ADC driver, some don't . Denis will circulate a note about this later and will discuss this by phone with Dan - before doing any major production purchasing we need to go through a production review - note: will take at least a month to prepare this order . Plus there are various strategies to do this most cost effectively. Most of the money will be in a few of the components. o Questions from Darien & Paul: - What is happening with the ADF prototype 1 that was sent to Dan? . Dan has received it . has been looking at it and the schematics (w/ Cadence) . hasn't yet electrically run the card - Are there firm plans for Dan to travel to Saclay for the completion of the prototype 2 layout? . A date has not yet been picked. Will be driven by when Denis is ready to start work on detailed round 2 design. . This will happen when tests are finished on single-channel ADF. . So far: the modifications foreseen are pretty simple - so it may not be necessary o Online - 1st Step: Porting current monitoring software to Linux . basically finished now - Now looking in detail at current ADF software. . may be able to take it over directly to Linux without significant modifications - but may require so new code for interfaces. . another option: extract "ADF functional" and write the rest of it in more familiar D0 terms . to make this choice will need to understand ADF code - Denis' comments . software can run on any OS by simply changing underlying libraries (tcp/ip sockets, threads) > have developed Windows, LInux, Lynx libraries > can provide Philippe with appropriate source code . have not yet compiled the ADF files under Linux - but this should be straightforward . also have not yet run Bit3 under Linux > this has been done at Nevis though - D0 software . Does not use sockets. Uses ACE package for this. . May need to change this aspect. > this is the main question to answer TAB/GAB Status (H.Evans) -------------- o GAB prototype submitted to fabricator at beginning of Dec. - still waiting for PO from Columbia purchasing o Mod's to TAB firmware to aid in next integration tests - particularly: have implemented a Parity-error counter on each input o GAB test software basics are ready for GAB prototype SCLD Issues ----------- o Questions from Darien & Paul: - What can be done with the schedule for the new SCLD? It looks like there is a mismatch between the schedule that Nikos' engineer is comfortable with, and the time when the SCLD is needed for the prototype 2 tests. . Intent of ADF-2 tests is to make sure that this is ready for production. Need to do the following. > run multiple ADFs in one crate > run ADFs in multiple crates > in general this is a "number of links" issue . Need to have an SCLD card for this Digital Filtering News ---------------------- o UVa will not be able to take on the responsibility for studying this. o Some group needs to be found to do these long-term studies. o Dan's Comment: need to switch focus from 132 ns to 396 ns. Integration Test Discussion --------------------------- o Dan needs two more weeks with the ADF . Jovan will be at Fermilab at that time o Shoot for 26 Jan for start of test o Possible Issues - will not have 2nd TAB prototype at this time --> have to send TAB back to Nevis . note: this should not be a problem o Main Goal - prove that links between systems work o To Do - each group should come up with a detailed list of what they want to do and what they need to do it Simulation: E.Barberis ---------- o Mike & Ela have put together a simulation schedule - put standalone L1Cal, L1CTT and L1Muon into single package - generate a list a MC files to create using this package . send requests for channels to Ela - need to understand how Cal-Track fits into this . they are currently aiming to get this into trigsim, which is far more complicated than what we need in the short term. - aim is to produce new MC data so that studies can be completed by the summer D0 workshop - L0 Silicon: the geometry is probably not available for this yet . Ela will check on status of this Meeting Time ------------ o Possibilities: - Tue: 10-11 - Mon: late morning - Wed: late morning
