RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 20 May, 2004 Present o Fermilab M.Camaruryo, S.Rapisarda, A.Stone, N.Varelas, H.Weerts o MSU M.Abolins, J.Biel, D.Edmunds, P.Laurens o Nevis H.Evans, J.Parsons o Northeastern D.Wood o Rice P.Padley Fermilab: TWG (S.Rapisarda) ------------- o Almost done w/ 32-channel spec. - discussing w/ Dan and Denis as to how best to use this device - may be possible to use a commercial solution . Dan/Denis/Stefano should decide what is best technical solution Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o TAB/GAB prototype tests - found some errors in the way we were doing TAB->GAB data transmission tests . these do not affect the 2 TAB --> GAB tests reported a month ago - redoing B.E.R. tests - have found one input channel on the GAB that isn't working . probably a bad solder connection . sending the board back to the assembler for x-ray Saclay: ADF/SCLD (H.Evans for D.Calvet) ---------------- o The SCLD board is now in production. - I hope to get one board stuffed by mid~end June o I continued playing with the ADF board. I made some measurements (analog section with +5V -5V, digital filter, etc.). - I will prepare a series of slides for the next video conference. o I submitted a paper to NSS 2004 on the ADF stuff. o I shipped to Alan Stone the ~800 feet of cable and various connectors that were left from the prototype of the cable harness. MSU: ADF (D.Edmunds) -------- o Continuing design/layout of ADF v.2 o 3rd engineer (Jason Biel) has joined the project o Discussion b/w MSU and Nevis engineers about details of data transfer b/w ADF and TAB o Paul and Darien will visit MSU on 6/28 Online Software (P.Laurens) --------------- o Philippe is concentrating mainly on the ADF work UIC: Cabling (A.Stone) ------------ o Patch panel testing on Sidewalk - cable from splitter is the same as BLS cable - need adapter (i.e. patch panel) to make coupling to ADF o Web page being updated o Talked with Rich Smith and Ken Johns about possible racks (5 extra) for patch panels - cost would be ~$8K per rack for fully powered w/ RMI, etc. - this may not actually be needed - Alan is looking into this - still looking at space for cables to the patch panels o Tests of electrical characteristics of patch-panel to ADF cables - have sent prelim. spec's to Johnny Green and John Anderson so that he can think about this - these tests need to be done as soon as possible . can't really make progress until this is resolved o Length-matching cables - analog signals stay above 90% of peak value for ~100 ns ==> a few feet makes no difference o Rack space/cabling for Cal-Track - have also determined that there won't be any conflict with Cal-Track cables
