RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 17 June, 2004 Present o Fermilab M.Adams, J.Mitrevski, G.Pawloski, V.O'Dell, A.Stone, W.Taylor, N.Varelas o MSU M.Abolins, J.Biel, D.Edmunds, P.Laurens o Nevis H.Evans, C.Johnson o Northeastern E.Barberis, D.Wood o Rice P.Padley o Saclay D.Calvet, E.Perez Outlook from Fresno Workshop (H.Evans) ---------------------------- o see slides linked off agenda o Main points a) need to interact with new Trigger Boards - Standing Committee on Installation and Physics Commissioning - Trigger Steering Committee b) Ramp up work on simulation - new MC data sets and tools available c) Director's Review of Run IIb on July 15-16 Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o TAB/GAB crate - custom backplane arrived from assembler - successfully installed in crate shell . alignment very good . found a short in one connector - being checked - no problems (other than short) seen in initial tests - now running long-term TAB --> GAB data transmission with cards in the crate Saclay: ADF/SCLD (D.Calvet) ---------------- o writing documentation o still waiting for SCLD board - should arrive in next few days - will test with ADF v1 o SCLD firmware - will be (largely) re-written by MSU - checking that ADF v2 is electrically compatible with SCLD MSU: ADF (D.Edumnds) -------- o continuing work on ADF v2 - no roadblocks o MSU coordination with Nevis - continue this with email/documentation o BLS signals in current system *****action required now***** - these have been causing problems in Run IIa . single TTs occasionally have to be excluded . these are repairable - but requires access to collision hall and have to be careful not to break other things - no group has responsibility for this . need to do systematic and regular checks on these signals - we need to consider this in the IIb design a) monitoring these signals > beam data and pulser > hardware infrastructure exists but not used effectively in Run II > this work can start on the Run IIa system ==> benefits now b) coordinating required accesses to fix things > several people are capable of fixing problems when identified > have to have a group at Fermilab for this UIC: Cabling (A.Stone) ------------ o prototype design of BLS-ADF transition mainly done - Johnny ready to order parts o will make a (1st) patch panel that can accomodate 2 ADFs - several designs being considered - still working on how these will fit in racks - main issue is how much slack there is in existing cables > Dan: ~10-20 feet of slack buried under the floor (under other things) - plan to make a mock-up of a rack to check this Northeastern: Simulation (E.Barberis) ------------------------ o to-do list generated at Fresno: working through that Test Area --------- o Tests to do in short-term - need to have a small amount of down-time when Dan is at Fermilab to do these a) TAB --> L3 --> tape b) ADF --> TAB long-term tests - some TAB firmware has to be changed for this > ~1 day by Jovan
