RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 2 December, 2004 Present o Fermilab D.Edmunds, S.Lammers, S.Rapisarda, A.Stone, N.Varelas o MSU M.Abolins, C.Brock o Nevis H.Evans o Northeastern D.Wood o Saclay D.Calvet Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o GAB Firmware - finishing implemention of and/or terms (including topological) o TAB Firmware - new synchronization firmware being implemented . http://www.nevis.columbia.edu/~evans/l1cal/hardware/tab/adf_tab_sync.html being updated to reflect what is done - new EM algorithm being implemented . http://www.nevis.columbia.edu/~evans/l1cal/algos/algos.html will be updated in the near future with all the details o TAB/GAB assembly - 10 TABs & 3 GABs now being assembled - should be done before end of Dec. o TAB-->DAQ test - Jovan has started preparing this - delayed slightly by some computer problems in Test Area . need to install new version of Linux on this (tiblisi) Fermilab: TWG (S.Rapisarda) ------------- o see web page: www-ese.fnal.gov/D0Cal_TWG/ o Software: command sequences defined o Hardware - all commercial & custom components have been assembled o In progress - system testing/support - documentation o Termination of unused channels - currently not done, but could be added for an extra $300 o Will (probably) send this to MSU next week MSU: ADF v2 (D.Edmunds) ----------- o Jason and Jorge working with Stefano on TWG (at Fermilab) o ADFs at assembly house - have been responding to questions from them - ~Dec. 15 for first assembled cards o Philippe is working on control software for current system o Marvin Johnson and John Anderson have reminded us that they have people available to help us if necessary - people will get hauled away if not used UIC: Cabling (A.Stone) ------------ o see: http://www-clued0.fnal.gov/~alstone/ o Mockup is working well o ADF Backplane - looks ok: paddle fit into all slots except slot 0 . slot 0 will be used for Vertical Interconnect o Cable space on paddle cards - enough space for all of these cables - but not a lot - should do the cabling of the paddle cards outside of the racks o Signal and Impedance matching - draft note available on web, will be polished over next two weeks - 73 ohm termination at ADF end required . signal loss ~10% (low frequencies) - can be compensated at ADF . signed off on by John and Marvin o Length of pleated foil cables - John A. claims that the current cables are ~1/3 of a wavelength at 20 MHz . makes things difficult to model . measurements say that this is ok for all frequencies up to 20 MHz (highest frequency expected) - Allen will follow up with John to make sure that he's happy with the measurement o Infrastructure - John Anderson would like to strip existing racks and put in new system (rather than moving in new racks) . estimate ~3 weeks for this including cooling - still need 4 more racks on sidewalk o Transition system - should we order this now? - Dan says that there is no need to test this with an ADFv.2 o Note: two more BLS cables died during the current shutdown - standard fragile connector problem o Document in preparation Simulation (S.Lammers) ---------- o Sliding Windows in Trigger Rate Tool in process of being released o Greg working on plots requested in Simulation Workshop o Will have another simulation meeting during the collaboration meeting
