RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 27 January, 2005 Present o Fermilab L.Bagby, G.Ginther, M.Mulhearn, A.Stone, W.Taylor, N.Varelas, H.Weerts o MSU M.Abolins, J.Biehl, C.Brock, D.Edmunds, P.Laurens o Nevis H.Evans, C.Johnson o Northeastern E.Barberis, D.Wood o Rice P.Padley o Saclay D.Calvet o By Phone S.Lammers, J.Mitrevski Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o All production TABs (10) and GABs (3) have gone through basic bench testing - most stringent test: 6 TABS --> GAB long-term data transmission . limited to 6 TABs because of current limits in our (temporary) power supply - no problems found o Getting quotes on final power supply for use in the Fermilab system. Need two outputs - 6V /20A - 48V/20A o Tests of jitter on 53MHz clock distribution for L2/L3 G-link output on TABs and GABs - TAB: very low jitter, lots of margin - GAB: ok - but less margin - to be conservative have come up with an alternate G-link clock distribution scheme for the GAB ==> TAB-level jitter . will implement this scheme over the next week or two - Note: these jitter measurements will have to be repeated at Fermilab with the SCL clock o (other) Things to do at Nevis - continue long-term multi-TAB --> GAB transmission tests - test new TAB firmware . new EM algo, more stable tau algo, new ADF data receiver - test GAB firmware containing first-pass trigger terms MSU: ADF v2 (D.Edmunds/P.Laurens) ----------- o ADF v2 Testing - VME connection . in good shape, doing everything needed . still working on control PAL - Analog ADC Section . have been testing this heavily this week . checking noise levels, cross talk, frequency response, etc. . also in good shape - Output to TAB (Channel Link) . have used Denis' test receiver to test these . have tested that things are connected correctly, data received correctly . still to do: bit error rate tests - SCL Connection . have verified previously that signals can be transported over backplane . extensive testing still to do o 4 (of 10) cards have been assembled - 1 has been tested extensively, the other less so - no problems observed - will make 2 more o All parts for ADF production are now in hand o Online Software - software to do above tests forms base of final online system . working quite stably Test System (A.Stone) ----------- o Floor plan for Test Area being implemented - especially wiring/grounding - racks are in area o Power distribution to area being implemented - Plan to be able to run system 24 hours a day o Final Transition system cost estimates / schedule made - should be able to have everything in hand by May o L1Cal IIb calendar has been created o Computers in Test Area - should not connect computers with connections to crates to building (as opposed to MCH1) ground o ADF crates - 6 crates have arrived at Fermilab - 1 may have been damaged - should be checked o First Integration Tests to do - as soon as ADFs have been characterized at MSU 0) TAB to L2/L3 (hope to do this before review) 1) ADF to TAB data transmission 2) BLS to ADF data
