RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 19 April, 2005 Present o Fermilab G.Ginther, S.Lammers, M.Mulhearn, G.Pawloski, N.Varelas o MSU M.Abolins, C.Brock, D.Edmunds, P.Laurens o Nevis H.Evans, C.Johnson o Northeastern E.Barberis, D.Wood Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o Continuing studies of new EM algorithm - no problems found so far - will implement in firmware after checking eff vs background for an example channel o Testing trigger term creation firmware in GAB MSU: ADF v2 (D.Edmunds) ----------- o Production card testing - ~75 cards tested now - no serious problems found - only simple repairs - should be done by the end of the month o System test crate - ADF card in all slots - power supply noise tests, currents, VME accesses, clock & SCL distribution, channel link output, ADC noise levels - all looks fine o Software - porting control software to linux . will be ready soon BLS-to-ADF Transition System (N.Varelas, M.Mulhearn) ---------------------------- o Paddle Card Design - mechanical design done - layout not yet done - working on connection to ADF-to-TAB cables - issue is that P0 connector on Wiener crate does not connect easily to LVDS cables used . paddle card will solve this - note: have checked that the pinout is correct - no need to remap signals on Paddle Card - details of this to be worked out in a meeting tomorrow o Patch Panels are ready to go out - priority to get this out has been lowered while dealing with Paddle Cards Test System (M.Mulhearn) ----------- o ADF-to-TAB tests - successfully transfered data from ADF to TAB last week (4/11) . same (constant) event transfered ==> event synch not yet checked . previous problem was that cable was plugged in backwards at ADF - will continue these tests in more depth after TAB-to-L3 o TAB-to-L3 tests - Readout Crate (VRB-VRBC-SBC) tests (4/14) . test data in VRB successfully transmitted to SBC using D0 L2Accepts > with spreadsheet control software from Dave Buchholtz . but system tends to hang after ~10 minutes > lower priority than other issues right now - TAB data output verification . checked data output from TAB using SignalTap firmware monitor > looks fine after firmware bug fix - G-Link optical launch power measurements (4/15 & 4/18) . measured peak-to-peak of output signal appears to be better than "max" in Stratos spec > no data transfered: -0.9 dBm > data transfered: -4 dBm > after splitter: -8 dBm (in the ballpark of where we expect) . need to make measurements on all boards though - Have not yet succeeded in transfering data from TAB to SBC . see VRB errors: G-Link synch and fifo-not-empty Simulation (E.Barberis) ---------- o Working on GAB output in tsim_l1cal2b o TAB can now run all three algorithms simultaneously o Will implement the new EM algorithm in the Trigger Rate Tool and in tsim o Roger working on l2cal_worker o Trigger studies - mu + jets: Ela - Higgs: Sabine Preparing for Test Data (H.Evans) ----------------------- o see slides linked off agenda for details o Please send your thoughts on these questions to Hal
