RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 3 May, 2005 Present o Fermilab T.Adams, L.Bagby, D.Edmunds, G.Ginther, M.Mulhearn, Md.Maimuddin, G.Pawloski, P.Renkel, A.Stone, D.Wood, N.Varelas, H.Weerts o MSU M.Abolins, C.Brock, P.Laurens o Nevis H.Evans o Northeastern D.Wood Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o Continuing studies of new EM algorithm - simulating various versions o Testing trigger term creation firmware in GAB o Power supply arrived from Vicor - shipped to Fermilab for testing in Test System - will buy more of these as soon as the 1st checks out o Will start safety review process o Ship more TABs to Fermilab - will check to see if there is any reason to keep a substantial number at Nevis MSU: ADF v2 (D.Edmunds) ----------- o Production card testing - all 100 have been tested - only three have minor problems (LEDs, etc) o Fully populated crate testing - this is now shifting into high gear (20 ADFs per crate) - using final version of firmware - this is far enough along that we could think of bringing crates of ADFs to Fermilab . need to have a place to store these o Oversampled ADF data - can capture more of these signals now, using an automated acquisiton . available next week . will also have the data sent to the TAB available . sampled over an entire turn - this will be useful for e.g. verifying timing of BLS signals BLS-to-ADF Transition System (A.Stone) ---------------------------- o Paddle Card Design - design is almost finished - rechecking the ADF-to-TAB connections to make sure that everything is correct . need to verify TAB connections at backplane . will circulate this when ready - will probably try to order one crate's worth next week . if everything goes well o Patch Panels final design done - will order a few more "pre-production" modules to make sure that it's right Test System (M.Mulhearn) ----------- o ADF-to-TAB, TAB-to-L2(fic), TAB-to-L3, TAB-to-GAB - all checked using same data on every event - error checking is being done at the FIC level . seeing rather frequent protocol errors, but have just started these tests o To Do - real event synchronization (i.e. seeing the correct event synchronized across the system) - data to tape in a short test run - should be able to reach May 15 milestone of vertical slice Pulser (B.Kehoe) ------ o see slides linked off the agenda page - some of the discussion is reproduced below o Use of Pulser for timing studies - pulser signals are fairly similar to real data - timing can be adjusted o Structure of Pulser code - based on L1Cal examine code - can run "online" as an examine, but normally used offline for reading files from disk/SAM o Pulser injects charge at preamp level - can check for (historically) most probable problems - BLS system
