RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 28 June, 2005 Present o Fermilab T.Adams, L.Bagby, M.Cwiok, D.Edmunds, G.Ginther, S.Lammers, M.Mulhearn, Md.Maimuddin, V.O'Dell, G.Pawloski, P.Renkel, A.Stone, N.Varelas o MSU J.Benitez, J.Biehl, P.Laurens, R.Unalan o Nevis H.Evans, C.Johnson o Rice P.Padley (apologies to those I couldn't see) Nevis: TAB/GAB (H.Evans) -------------- o Measuring jitter at various points in the VME/SCL to TAB to G-link chain in an attempt to understand where large components of it come from. - note: the total jitter level we are seeing (sigma ~ 40 ps) seems to be smaller than what would be indicated by the L2/L3 b.e.r. measurement at Fermilab of ~1e-4. - will probably need to change to using CLK53 as the basis for g-link transmission (rather than a 53 MHz clock derived from CLK7 as is the case now) - as soon as an appropriate scope is found at Fermilab the jitter on CLK7 and CLK53 can be measured MSU: ADF v2 (D.Edmunds) ----------- o Working on tests of transition system - building a system to test correct connectivity . plugs into patch panels . hooks into TWG - assembly being finished now - should be ready to go to Fermilab late this week - this system will be useful when we install in MCH1 o ADF transition modules - have run channel link tests (ADF-to-TAB) on this for the last week ==> no problems observed BLS-to-ADF Transition System (A.Stone) ---------------------------- o Hardware now at Fermilab - All pleated foil cables - 25 patch panel cards - 4 ADF transition cards . had observed some warping on these cards . addressed by fabricator . should get the remaining 21 (pre-production) cards soon o Test Card - order to do layout sent out today - ~2 weeks until we get the cards back o Have enough cards at Fermilab to do system tests at Fermilab - will try to get these installed in an ADF crate(s) today o Working on inter-rack wiring - will start labeling cables as they are tested Test System (M.Mulhearn, M.Naimuddin) ----------- o GAB-to-TFW transmission - can run a cable from the TFW to the TEst Area - TFW can check that transmission works at a basic level without any and/or terms o Multiple ADFs-to-TAB - need to finish mechanical work in ADF crates . cages for transition cards . cable dressing o L1CalTrack Match - in principle, everything is ready for this o Jitter on CLK7 and CLK53 - need scope for this o Data to tape - need to put together a trigger list including TTs(2a,2b) and precision readout . make special trigger to fire on energy in 16 TTs that are connected - can also use existing "hand pulser" . allows comparison of 2a and 2b TTs - can also use pulser to generate L1accepts for specific BCs . use this to test that L1Cal is sending out correct data Shutdown News ------------- o Current best estimate is Oct. 31 - but this may change depending on status of accelerator Pulser System (P.Renkel) ------------- o see slides posted on agenda page o Pulser injects charge into individual calorimeter cell electronics - typically set up to inject charge into only a few cells - each pulser box sends signals to multiple cells - each "pattern" sends charge to a different set of cells o Checking for Dead/Bad cells - need to check TT in detailed display to see which patterns caused problems. Since different patterns fire different cells, can use this information to narrow down to the cell level.
