RUN 2B L1CAL MEETING MINUTES 29 November, 2005 Present o Fermilab L.Bagby, J.Benitez, H.Evans, C.Fantasia, G.Ginther, S.Lammers, M.Mulhearn, A.Roe, A.Stone, R.Unalan, N.Varelas, M.Verzocchi o MSU M.Abolins, C.Brock, D.Edmunds, P.Laurens (apologies to those I couldn't see) Machine Report: G.Ginther --------------- o During shutdown Tevatron has been doing aperture studies - this was originally supposed to happen a period of physics running - report a 10% gain, with more possibilities on the horizon - may need to do more studies in January o No change currently foreseen in March 1 shutdown start Installation: A.Stone ------------ o see slides posted off agenda - only discussion reported below o Ribbon Cables (L1CalIIa summing signals - not needed for IIb) - these are run along the top of the racks - cables will be cut at both ends and pulled out of the cable tray - need to be careful of any (possible) other cables in the tray . there shouldn't be any - but who knows... o D0Note on cable labeling finished o To do before shutdown - list of dead/noisy channels - training of cablers - disconnect ribbon cables - apply RunIIb labels - put BLS cables in existing plastic cable-guide . this will protect them . has been tested with a mockup o Pleated Foil Cables - routing will not interfere w/ ADF crate power supplies o Status of Rack Infrastructure - will need to check that we have everything needed . probably in January o TAB/GAB Wiener Power Supply - problems found (out of the box) . drifting 6V supply . blown transistors - repaired supply should be sent back tomorrow - should be tested and installed by the end of the week . need to understand exactly what Wiener will test and what is left for us o Test Area Cabling - need to find people to help with the 240 ADF-to-TAB cables . 3-4 are required - work in pairs: currently have Alan and Rahmi . request in for Fermilab tech - need to know by end of the week whether this is possible o Test Area Installation of TABs/GAB - can test these during lulls in cabling o Test Area Installation of ADF cards (after ATCs & cabling) - will be done by Dan and/or Jorge o ADF crate for continued sidewalk running after installation - total of 5 crates - need to keep one at MSU - maybe an extra one at Saclay Technical Commissioning: M.Mulhearn ----------------------- o see slides on agenda o Transition System Verification - one option: patch panel to ADF verified *before* connecting BLS cables to PPs - another (current default) option: verify BLS cables plugged into PP (using test points) *before* connecting pleated foil o BLS Cabling Verification - use Pulser system o ADF Calibration - Timing . done entirely almost entirely within the system . only need a few short (10 min) periods of running D0 with only L1Cal - Energy Calibration . will compare L1Cal against Prec. Readout using the Examine o Link Tests - quick tests to make sure all links are operational - do BER types of tests with full system operational o Integration Tests Physics Commissioning: S.Lammers ---------------------- o see slides on agenda o Calibration (2a TTs) - do we need to do this within the Examine - or could it be put into the CAF tree? . CAF tree solution is strongly prefered - someone needs to be indentified to do this . high priority for collaboration as a whole - this will allow Dan to tune the coefficients of the ADF TT response to 5% o Turn-on Curves - Jets: use MB data ==> unbiased jets mu data ==> b-jet enriched sample o Data Runs
