Biography

I am a Research Scientist working at Nevis Laboratories of Columbia University's Department of Physics. My research activities are in fields of Elementary Particle Physics, Low Temperature Physics and Cryogenics, in particular on research for next-generation solar neutrino detectors at future colliding-beam facilities by utilizing the advantages of cryogenic liquids as the detecting medium
After received my Ph.D. in Cryogenic Engineering and Fluid Mechanics from Cryogenic Laboratory and Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in July 1998, I moved to the Netherlands and joined Group of Low Temperature Physics of Department of Applied Physics, Eindhoven University of Technology as a Post-doc Research Associate from October 1998 till October 2000. I then returned China and worked at Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a Research Professor for about two years. In October 2002, I joined Columbia University's Department of Physics
I specialize in Cryogenics and Thermal Physics, bringing emerging advanced technology into full-qualified software and hardware of low-power cryocoolers and has contributed significantly to the successes of Group of Low Temperature Physics at Department of Applied Physics of Eindhoven University of Technology and Pulse Tube Group at Cryogenic Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences in area of pulse tube refrigerators. Research Interests

I am currently conduct research in the field of Elementary Particle Physics on development of next-generation neutrino detectors at future colliding-beam facilities, so called Electron Bubble Particle Detector by using cryogenic liquids (Helium, Neon and hydrogen) as the detecting medium for the detection of low-energy particles from natural sources such as the Sun and Supernovae, and Neutrinos from accelerator beams and nuclear reactors. Research are mainly conducted at Nevis Laboratories of Columbia University at New York City, NY, Brookhaven National Laboratory at Long Island, NY, and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory at Chicago, IL
The project of Electron Bubble Particle Detector focuses in particular on the interactions of neutrinos scattering off atomic electrons in the detecting medium (cryogenic liquids), resulting in recoil electrons which can be measured experimentally, based on the detection of 500 solar electron-neutrino scattering events per year in a liquid helium detector with 5-tons sensitive mass in a large volume cylinder, having a diameter of about 3 meters and height of roughly 6.5 meters. Such a program would allow the determination of the feasibility of the construction of a modest-size tracking chamber that in turn would lead to a study for a large solar neutrino detector, which will provide a simultaneous and critical test of stellar evolution theory and of neutrino oscillation questions. We anticipate that this technology may open up new possibilities for next-generation neutrino detectors, and may also have applications in detecting 'dark matter' particles and at future colliding-beam facilities
