Time and Location: Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday, 2:30 - 3:45 pm, in Pupin 420.
Textbook:   Introduction to Elementary Particles, by Griffiths. Supplementary handouts will be provided as required.
My Coordinates:
Course Homepage: Course information, including homework assignments, will be posted at http://www.nevis.columbia.edu/~parsons/teach/G6050.html.
Homework: Regular problem sets will be assigned, typically every two weeks. The assignments will be due to be handed in at the beginning of class on the announced due date. No late homework assignments will be accepted for grading.
Seminar Reports: You should regularly attend the Experimental Particle and Astroparticle Physics Seminar, held usually on Wed. afternoons 1 - 2 pm (see the Physics Department homepage for the schedule). For each of 3 such seminars (or Theory Seminars or Colloquia which are about particle physics), hand in a 2-3 page typed report discussing something you learned from the seminar. The first report is due by the end of October, and the other two are due by the end of classes.
Examinations: There will be one midterm test and a final exam. The midterm will be given during regular class time, on a date to be announced later. The 3-hour final exam will be held during the university exam period in December.
Course Grading: The final course grade will be computed as a weighted average of the grades on the homework assignments (25%), seminar reports (10%), midterm (25%), and final exam (40%).
Online Sources of Information: You can find useful information online at the WWW site of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and the e-print archive (arxiv.org).
