Acknowledgements
Parts of Argothald's
the world design were inspired or influenced by other writers.
In particular, I acknowledge the following:
- P. E. I. Bonewits' Real Magic for the magic colors and laws of magic used in the magic research
section.
- Roger Zelazny's Amber series and his book Jack of Shadows for the basis of the conflict of Tala
with Chaos.
- Robert A. Heinlein's novella "Coventry" for Exile, the campaign site on the Western Continent.
- Greg Bear's The Infinity Concerto for the ideas underlying the elvish center.
- Katherine Briggs' An Encyclopedia of Fairies and The Vanishing People, and H. Warner Munn's
Merlin's Ring for the basic concepts in my design of fairies.
- Anne McCaffery's Pern books for the concept of impressing dragons, which I adapted to the
attachment of griffins.
- Sam Hutchens for the original design of the missile weapons system.
- Matthew Balent's The Palladium Book of Weapons & Armor and The Palladium Book of Weapons
& Castles for the historical data on weapons and armor.
- And, of course, J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings for the basic ideas behind elves, dwarves, and
orcs, and for starting the whole business in the first place.
