Homework:
- 8 - 10 problems will be assigned each week.
- Homework will be collected in class on the due date.
- Each Problem Set will be worth 30 points
- 8 points each for three problems that will be fully graded.
These problems will be chosen at random but will be the same for all
students. Partial credit will be given.
- 6 points for evidence that the rest of the problems have been
seriously attempted.
- Clearly show your work for all problems.
You should show that you know how to do the problem - not simply write
down the correct answer.
- The lowest two of your problem set scores will be dropped when
calculating your final homework grade.
Exams:
- There will be two 75 minute Midterms,
- And a three hour Final.
- You will be allowed one 8 1/2 x 11 note sheet during the exams.
- The note sheet must be in your handwriting and must be an
original copy (no Xeroxes).
- You may use one side of the paper for the midterms
and both sides for the final.
- The note sheet will be handed in with the exam.
- No other papers or books may be used.
Regrades:
- Mistakes in grading homeworks and midterms have been known to
happen (shocking but true!). So check all of your returned problem
sets and exams carefully.
- You have two weeks from the time that a problem set or
midterm is returned to request a regrade of a problem that you
think was marked incorrectly or to report a score that was
mis-recorded.
Check the Grades & Results page for
a list of your scores.
- To request a regrade send an email to the grader who marked the
problem in question and cc Hal Evans.
Absences:
- No late homeworks will be accepted without a note from your Dean.
- If you miss an exam you may take a makeup
only if you have a valid excuse from the Dean.
- Only one makeup will be scheduled for each exam.
If you are also unable to attend a makeup midterm and have been
excused by the Dean,
that midterm will not be counted in your final grade.
- The Final Exam is required to pass the course.
